A complete post-medieval silver sixpence of William III (AD 1694 - 1702) dating to 1697. Mint of Chester. Die axis: 6 o'clock. As Spink 3543. The coin is worn and has been deliberately bent into an 'S'-shape, possibly to form a love token.
Diameter 19 mm, thickness 1 mm. and weight 2.7 g.

An extremely worn silver post medieval shilling of uncertain ruler, probably William III (AD 1694 - 1702). Both faces are worn to blankness, possibly deliberaterly for use as a token, only a faint profile of the monarch can be seen, from which it is suggested the coin is of William III.

The coin is worn and displays two sub-parallel straightned folds suggesting it may have been repurposed as a love token. Coins of William III were commonly converted into love tokens and this example has the characteristic S-shape.
