Obverse: Lightly worn bust, facing right, wearing a laurel crown and draped cloth around the shoulders. Inscription: GVLIELMVS III.DEI.GRA. Reverse: Four crowned shields placed in cruciform pattern, with a possible uncrowned lion shield in the centre. Inscription: 97 MAG BR FRA [ET] HIB REX16. The coin measures 25.37mm diameter, 1.28mm thick and weighs 5.49.

An extremely worn post-medieval white metal contemporary forgery of a half crown of William III (1694-1702).  Obverse: laureate bust right; legend [GVLIEL]MVS.[ III. DEI. GRA]. Reverse: illegible.  Measurements: diameter 33.45mm, thickness 1.81mm, weight 9.00g. This example is the right size but is lighter than the official issues of around 15g, a trait often seen on forgeries of the period.  Other examples of contemporary half crown William III forgeries recorded on the PAS database include: WAW-0DF698 and SUSS-9941E6.

The coin is copper alloy with a silver wash on the surface to give the impression of it being the official issue. A number of these copies are known, often without retaining the silver coating. This example is the right size but is lighter than official issues, a trait often seen on forgeries of the period.
