Post medieval contemporary copy of a silver halfcrown of William III (1694-1702), dated 1696.
There are copper corrosion deposits on both faces probably from a central copper core and the edge is badly chipped removing the edge legend. No copper alloy shows in the chipped edges so the surface deposits could be from another source. However the coin is very underweight (the full weight is close to 15 grams and even very worn examples are over 13 grams) and, significantly, has a incorrect die orientation, suggesting it is a contemporary copy with a copper alloy core.
