A mid 16th-century silver post-medieval groat of Mary I (North 1960), struck at London (1553-54 AD). This coin survives in good condition, but has been clipped and somewhat bent. The metal has been slightly tarnished at the top of both faces. There is also some double striking to both faces.

A silver post medieval coin; a half groat of Mary (1553 – 1554). The coin is chipped, cracked and is bent in half at a forty five degree angle. The field is very worn but most of the legend is still legible. The coin has a diameter of 22.4mm and is 0.5mm thick. It weighs 1.71g. Coins of Mary are not common finds. This one is number 2493 in Spink’s Standard Catalogue.
