Much of the extremities and lower half of the coin is covered in a reddish copper colour.
There is a central square hole (3mm by 2mm) pinch through the obverse.

An extremely worn, incomplete, Post Medieval copper alloy contemporary copy of a shilling of Edward VI (AD 1547-1553). Second coinage and dating AD 1549-1551. Uncertain mint and initial mark. Sections of the outside edge of the flan are missing. See North (1991) Vol.2 pg.101 No.1917.
This is a copper alloy core which has been silver coated. Other examples on the database include PAS record IDs: LON-79DAB7, SWYOR-C5F685, GLO-57DD11 and BH-8275B8.

A Post Medieval silver coin; an Irish threepence of Edward VI in the name of Henry VIII (posthumous coinage), type IV dating from AD 1547 - 1550. It was minted at Dublin. See Spink's Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands number 6491. It has a diameter of 19.1mm and is 0.5mm thick. 0.99g.

A probable counterfeit coin; the copper alloy core of a plated copy of a shilling of Edward VI, dating from AD 1547 - 1550 (Coinage in own name, first or second period). The coin is in very poor condition, but the crowned bust right and the oval garnished shield are visible, as is REX in the obverse legend and M:D:XL in the reverse legend. The object is 28.7mm in diameter, 0.7mm thick and weighs 2.39g. See North Volume 2, number 1896 or 1918 - 1925.

A contemporary copy of a shilling of Edward VI. A copper alloy core which was probably originally silvered. The initial mark appears to by a Y suggesting this is copying a prototype of the Southwark mint (see North Vol II, No. 1971/2).
