A very worn and corroded plated halfcrown of the Commonwealth period AD 1649-1660, probably a forgery. The coin is made of copper alloy coated with white metal. The obverse shows a portion of the inscription [THE COMMONWE] ALTH OF EN[GLAND] separated by dots. The reverse possibly shows the outer edge of a shield surrounded by a very worn circumferential border with only a V left of the inscription. An incomplete Post-Medieval coin; a halfcrown (contemporary forgery) of the Commonwealth (1649-1660). Initial mark: sun, dated 1656 on the coin (similar to North (1975): page 173, ref: 2722). The copper alloy core is visible in the break. There are only four examples of this coin on the PAS database. Two are genuine: ESS-CE0A28 and DUR-6798E6; and two are contemporary forgeries: NCL-DFA766 and IOW-1760A3.
