Post medieval coin; struck silver sixpence of Charles I, probably dating to 1636-1638. This coin has a mistake on the reverse where there is an extra letter in the legend. Also the initial mark is very worn and therefore unclear. This may suggest that it is a local issue of the civil war era but none of the known initial marks and forms seem quite right. The most similar initial mark seems to be the tun, of the standard tower mint, pre-war issue but this identification is not certain. Obv. Crowned bust left with denomination ‘VI’ behind (bust too worn to identify group) CAROLVS.D…

Post-Medieval coin; silver halfgroat of Charles I, initial mark crown, 1635-6. The coin is in extremely fine condition (except for part of the shield, including the Irish harp, although this may be due to a slight bend in the coin) except for the portrait which is totally worn away –possibly deliberately defaced. Diameter 15.9mm, weight 1.00g.

Post medieval coin; silver shilling of Charles I, North 2211, initial mark triangle-in-circle, 1641-3. Diameter 31.7mm-33.6mm, thickness 2.3mm, weight 14.19g. This coin has been clipped. At one of the straight edges where it has been clipped the lettering of the legend (OLVS of CAROLVS) curls around from the obverse over the edge - see the second image. John Naylor (pers comm) believes this is probably a result of the clipping process, with the clippers bending/stretching the edge of the coin - however he has not seen this on a coin before.
