Gold crown of Charles I dating 1625-1626 (Group Ab with the first bust). The obverse has the bust of the king facing left with V behind his head and the legend CAROLVS D G MAG BRI FR ET HIB REX. The reverse has a crowned shield with the legend CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT. The initial mark is a cross calvary.

Description: A gold post-medieval Half-unite of Charles I dating to AD 1643. Civil War period, Thomas Bushell's mint, Oxford (North 2395). This coin has been bent in the form of a love token and has a circular perforation to the right of the bust located at 2 o'clock on the obverse. The circular perforation has been made from the obverse.
Obverse: Crowned bust left with X behind. Bust extends to bottom of coin.

Reverse: "Declaration" and legend on scroll with III and three plumes above and 1643 below.

Obverse: bust left. V behind. CAROLVS D G MAG BR FR ET HI' REX
Reverse: oval sheild between crowned C and R CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT
The left hand side of both the obverse and reverse appear very worn. However, the legends are very sharp and in mint condition. The wear is therefore a result of a worn die rather than coin use.
