A post-Medieval gold crown of Charles I (1625-1649), minted at London. Initial mark: crown, 1635-1636 (North 1991:157, ref: 2258). Obverse: CAROLVS.D.G.MA.BR.FR.ET.HI.REX; Crowned bust facing left with V (mark of value) behind the head. Reverse: CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT (God protects His worshippers); Oval garnished shield with crowned C R at sides.
