A silver penny of Charles I. Tower mint under the King. 1625-1649. Pierced flan.
The coin has been pierced, indicating a secondary function which would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins. It therefore cannot be said with confidence whether this particular object was regarded as a coin or as an item of jewellery at the time that the coin was deposited.

A post-Medieval, silver penny of Charles I. The coin has been folded in half. The obverse forms the outer surface and is very worn and illegible except for a few letters. The reverse forms the inner surface of the folded coin and is much less worn with much of it legible even though the coin remains pertially folded. The initial mark is, unfortunately, illegible on both sides.

A silver halfgroat of Charles I.
Description: Group D, Tower mint, initial mark triangle on obverse and reverse. The obverse legend is incorrect and reads CAROLVS.D:G:N:B:F:ET.H:REX. There should be an M where the N is and the G is not the normal shape.
Measurements: Diameter 17.06mm, weight 1.13g
Discussion: The irregularities in the coin may be attributed to errors in the die. The execution of the legends on both sides of the coin is, however, also very crude suggesting that this may not be a standard issue coin and could be a contemporary forgery.
