A silver, milled, halfcrown of King Charles I (AD.1625-1649). Civil War issue, minted in York. Spink 2869 type 7. North 1991 No.2315, dated to 1643-1644. Lion mintmark. Obverse: crowned king left holding sword above, on horseback with tail between back legs EBOR below, beaded circle surrounding, initial mark lion both sides. Obverse inscription: CAROLVS.DG.MAG.BRIT.FRAN.ET.HIB.REX. Reverse: crowned lion skin garniture around oval quartered shield of arms. Reverse inscription: CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO.
