Silver coin. Penny of Charles I (1625-1649), cf. Spink (2004) no. 2851, possibly Tower mint under Parliament, issue of 1642-1648. The partial loss of reverse legend might be a deliberate and politically selective modification, a point which may merit consideration by one more acquainted with the coinage of Charles I than this reporter. The finder kindly cites UKDFD no. 49727 as a parallel.
