A silver threepence of Charles I. The coin is bent in a classic S-shape that is sometimes associated with use as love tokens. Obverse; Crowned bust facing left, CAR[...]A[...]. Reverse; flat topped shield with long cross fleury, CHRIS[...]O. The coin was probably minted at one of the Provincial mints, but the lack of detail in the image precludes further identification. A silver plated copper alloy forgery of a Charles I (1625-49) shilling. Some of the silver has worn away or has been damaged, revealing the copper alloy core. The original shilling would have been struck in the Tower Mint under Parliament and is probably a copy of North's Group F, but as no initial mark can be seen it is not possible to be certain. The bust on the obverse is so worn that only a fragment of the crown can be seen. The reverse silver plate has suffered from iron staining and corrosion, again revealing the copper core in places.
