The coin has been pierced once below the CR on the obverse and above the thistle on the reverse which may indicate the coin had a secondary use as a pendant. It is notable that the coin is more worn on the edge away from the piercing (on both faces) which suggest use as a touch-piece with the bit nearest the piercing being protected from such intensive wear.
