Silver threepence of Charles I with no initial mark issued during the Civil war from the royalist mint at Chester from the 1640s. The coin is crudely executed with broken lettering and a reversed N in the obv. The obverse has the bust of the king facing left with III behind. The reverse has a squared shield. The coin has been clipped and only part of the legend remains. On the obverse that reads [F]AN ET HIB REX and on the reverse [CHRISTO A]VSPICE REG[NO]. Diameter: 17.3mm; weight: 1.4g

A complete, Post Medieval, silver threepence of Charles I (1625-1649). Minted in Aberystwyth between AD 1638 and AD 1642. The initial mark is unclear but is probably a book. C.f. North vol 2, p 172, no 2340. Spelling error on reverse CHRITO as opposed to CHRISTO The coin measures 23.2mm in diamter, is 0.7mm thick and weighs 1.7g. The coin has been clipped and is quite worn, especially on the obverse.

The mintmark is missing on the obverse, whilst on the reverse it appears that there is a book mintmark, meaning that the coin was minted in Aberystwyth around AD 1638-1649. An incomplete silver Post Medieval coin; a threepence of Charles I (AD 1625 - 1649), minted at the provincial mint of York in AD 1643 - 1644. The coin is incomplete and only half survives. It has broken across a circular piercing at the 9 o'clock position on the obverse, made from the obverse. The coin is 17.8mm long, 8.9mm wide and 0.5mm thick. 0.44g.
