A halfcrown of Charles I. John Naylor comments: I think this is most likely either an irregular coin or a forgery of base silver modelled on a Group IV Tower mint halfcrown. The main reference for Charles I is SCBI 33 (The John G Brooker Collection. Coins of Charles I (1625-1649)) by J J North and P J Preston-Morley (Spink 1984), for which similar irregulars & imitations are shown on Plates CXIII. Although none is an exact match, and this example is cruder. I think this is the likely scenario.

An extremely corroded and worn copper alloy core from a contemporary silver-plated forgery of a halfcrown of Charles I (1625-1649). One side depicts the king on a horse riding left, the other has an oval garnished shield. The silver plating has been entirely lost.
