A Post-Medieval silver coin: a Scottish twenty pence piece of Charles I (1625 - 49), third coinage, probably Briot's issue, dating from AD1632 - 47. There is a large edge chip from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock on the obverse. It is 16.3mm in diameter and 0.5mm thick. It weighs 0.56gm. Reference: Spink, 2003, Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, page 84, number 5586. It is possible that this is a contemporary copy as the lettering is somewhat crude and there is also a die error as there is a letter missing from the reverse legend.
