A post-Medieval, silver penny of Charles I. The coin has been folded in half. The obverse forms the outer surface and is very worn and illegible except for a few letters. The reverse forms the inner surface of the folded coin and is much less worn with much of it legible even though the coin remains pertially folded. The initial mark is, unfortunately, illegible on both sides.

A silver penny of Charles I. Tower mint under the King. 1625-1649. The flan has been badly struck and has several 'flat' areas with no definition. It has been pierced through the face of the king. The coin has been pierced, indicating a secondary function which would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins.
