A hammered silver coin dating from the Post Medieval period: a Scottish twenty pence piece of Charles I (1625-1649) from 1637-1642. Spink 5581-5591 (2002, p. 84). The coin is bent, possibly intentionally folded, in two. Consequently only the reverse is entirely visible; crowned thistle with the legend I[VST]ITIA THRO[NVM] FIRAT. Unusually, the M in 'FIRMAT' has been omitted. The coin is 15.8mm in diameter, 2.2m thick (the flan is 0.65mm) and weighs 0.65g.
