This is a hammered silver Charles I shilling from the Tower mint under the king, 1625-1642. The obverse has the crowned bust left with XII in field behind bust. The reverse has an oval garnished shield and the 'tun' mintmark, further defining the date to 1636-8. The coin is group D type 3a and in fine condition but with some clipping and damage to the rim at the 12:30 position.
