A heavily abraded and eroded contemporay copy / forgery of a Charles I (1625-1649) Shilling - most probably dating to the early reign (1625-1626) / Bust A. The coin is formed with a copper alloy core over which a thick silver sheet has been applied. The sheet has been heavily abraded and the surface has broken in several places revealling the brown green metal beneath. The survival of the detail on the coin is poor - this maybe due to a poorly made forged die. North 2216
