The coin has been pierced at about 8 o'clock nearer the centre than the edge. The sides have been bent forward and back creating an S-shaped cross section, in the way discribed as a 'love token'.

The coin has been bent upwards at the centre. It has a circular perforation probably through the reverse towards 11 o'clock, corresponding with around 6 o'clock on the obverse.

There is a crecent shaped hole / punched hole beneath the C of CAROLVS and on the reverse a small circular hole - suggesting the hole is made from the obverse face to the reverse face. There seems to be no reason in punching the hole as the coin does not seem to be aligned for suspension
