Post medieval silver halfgroat of Charles I dating to the period AD 1638 - 1642. Initial mark: book. Mint of Aberystwyth. See: North, Vol. II, p. 146, no. 2342 - 2344. Pierced at 7 o'clock on obverse (1 o'clock on reverse).
The perforation of a precious metal coin would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins.
