Ref: Spink 2003, page 74. Obverse: IACOBVS. 6 D.G.R.SCOTORVM; Crowned shield bearing a lion rampant left Reverse: REGEM.IOVA.PROTEGIT.1602; Crowned Thistle. The coin is bent across the centre at a right angle. It is 26.4mm diameter, 0.9mm thick and 3.1g.

Silver twenty pence coin of Charles I (1625-1649), Third coinage (1637-1642) issued by John Falconer in Edinburgh, Scotland. The coin is marked with the initial F above the crown on the reverse, which was the mark of John Falconer, the son-in-law of the French moneyer Nicholas Briot, who became the master of the Scottish mint in 1633 and was joined by Falconer later and succeeded Briot in 1646. Reverse: [REGEM IOVA] PROTEGIT; Crowned Thistle. Length: 16.0mm; width: 15.2mm. Weight: 0.58g. The coin is pierced with a circular hole, 2.7mm in diameter, at 1 o' clock on the obverse.
