An extremely worn copper alloy Post Medieval farthing of Charles II (1660-1685 AD). The date on the reverse of the coin is illegible due to wear. It is possible to see traces of his laureate bust facing left; the obverse legend reads: CARO[LVS] [A] CARO[L]O. On the reverse, traces of a seated Britannia remain; the legend is missing due to wear. Cf. Spink 2001 (36th ed.), p311, No. 3394.

A struck silver penny of Charles II (1660-1685 AD). Initial mark: Crown. Obv. legend: CAROLUS II D G M B F ET HIB REX; crowned bust in armour facing left with denomination mark behind bust on right. Rev. legend: CHRISTO AUSPIC[E] [RE]GNO; square-topped royal shield over cross moline. This coin is of a Third Issue struck type, with inner circles and mark of value; hammered coinage was superceded by machine-made coinage in early 1663.
Cf. North 1991, Vol II, No. 2775; North describes the cross on reverse as a cross fleury, however this example is a cross moline. Cf. Spink 2001, No. 3327.
