A silver Post-Medieval sixpence of Charles II (AD 1660-1685) dated to the period AD 1674-1684. Crowned cruciform shields reverse. Mint of London.
The coin is very worn and displays two sub-parallel straightned folds suggesting it may have been repurposed as a love token.
DUR-735B12 notes that: "Love tokens' were made using coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I (AD 1558-1603) to the reign of Anne (AD 1702-1714) with some Georgian examples and some as late as the Victorian period. A complete contemporary copy of a milled of Halfcrown of Charles II, dating to the period AD 1660-85.
The coin has a copper alloy core and is very worn, but retains covering silver plate across both the obverse and reverse surfaces. The outer edges are worn and the copper alloy core is exposed. The date and initial mark are too worn to identify.
Diameter: 31.20mm, Thickness: 1.69mm, Weight: 9.3g
