Worn and pierced silver Post Medieval halfgroat of Charles II. The coin is pierced above the bust on the obverse from which it may have been suspended. However, the Maundy ceremony was introduced in 1662 by Charles II in which, amongst other coins, twopences were issued, hence the coin could also be a pierced Maundy piece. Such 'touch-pieces' were believed to ward off scrofula, a disease also known as the Kings evil. Circa AD1660-1663. Diameter: 21.0mm. Weight: 0.89g.

Silver twopence of James II, Tower, large (4mm) piercing which has worn through the edge of the coin at 12 o'clock on the obverse, evidence (together with the very heavily worn reverse compared to the obverse) of long use as a pendant or similar, 1686-88, perhaps a token of loyalty to the vanished Stuart dynasty in the 18th century
