Iron bedstead finial. Cast iron finial, probably from a substantial cast iron bedstead, formed as an open oval scallop shell with nine lobes around its edge, with an indeterminate central feature with two upright members at its centre, rising from a round collar or pediment. The finder's suggestion that this might be from a fireplace tends to be contradicted by the continuation of relief detail on the back. The style is strongly influenced by Classical forms. Copper alloy and iron probable bed knob. Cast acorn shaped copper alloy finial mounted on the corroded remains of an iron post; iron protrudes from the top of the acorn. The socket of the finial is split by the expansion of corroding iron. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1900. Length: 71.6mm, Diameter (finial): 26mm, Weight: 80.17gms.
