Cast lead alloy miniature axe of probable medieval date (1200-1550). The axe is a scale model of a battle-style axe of the medieval period. It is cast in one piece with an integrally cast transverse hole through the butt. In shape the axe is irregular in plan with a rectangular butt and expanded blade; in profile it is broadly sub-triangular. The two faces of the butt are similarly shaped in plan; however, one face is much flatter than the other. This is probably due to the method of casting and shape of the mould used. The axe is made of iron. The shaft appears to be curled around to form a socket, but this is not certain. The upper edge of the blade is concave, the cutting edge of the blade is an expanded convex shape. The surface of the axe is corroded. The dating of the axe remains uncertain.

An iron blade from a medieval (13th- to 16th-century) carpenter's axe. The blade measures 156mm long 90mm high (from base of socket), and 16.4mm thick (maximum). It weighs 171g. According to Ward Perkins (1940) this axe is a Type II carpenter's axe.

Part of an iron axe blade, possibly dating from the medieval period. It is 71.46mm long, 58.34mm wide and 6.3mm thick. It weighs 88.44g. The probable axe blade is sub-rectangular with a curved thin cutting edge and lower side. The other end is broken. Axes are very difficult to date as they change very little in style. The object was found at Towton Battlefield, and it may be related to the battle in 1461.

An iron object which is probably part of an axe. It is 110.22mm long, 44.13mm wide and 12.43mm thick. It weighs 142.98g. The object is triangular in plan and tapers to a thin possible cutting edge at the wide end. Iron axes are very difficult to date as they do not change in style. This was found near Towton Battlefield so, it may date from 1461.

Cast iron axe probably dating from the Medieval to the Post-Medieval period. The object consists of the blade and part of the butt of the object. The base of the blade is flat while the upper half flares upwards. The cutting edge is 3mm thick. The butt has broken however the shaft hole appears to have been tear-shaped. The object is very corroded and therefore can not be dated more accurately. It has a rough orange brown patina.

Hand forged iron axe dating to the Medieval period. The axe has a triangular socket and flared blade. W.L Goodman (The History of Woodworking Tools, 1964) suggests axes of this shape are uncommon in the medieval period (although popular in illustrations). They come into use in the late Medieval period and continue through to the 19th century for general purpose domestic use. The object is corroded and has a reddish brown patina. Early Medieval or Medieval iron axe head, 155mm long, 45mm wide at the butt and 55mm high. The object is in fair condition and weighs 736grams. The axe consists of a rectangular shaped butt which has a rectangular shaped recess for a shaft. Each side of the butt has rounded upper and lower edges, giving it a sub circular form from the side. The blade is narrow and widens out towards its tip, flaring downwards on its lower edge.
