Two large joining fragments of a stone axe rough-out dating from the later Neolithic date (2500-2100 BC). The rough-out is knapped from a light blueish/grey buff volcanic tuff. Both halves of the axe have lain exposed to weathering a few metres apart for quite a long time, as the different layers of patination on the fragments' ob- and reverse prove. The finder described that, when found, 'the front portion including the cutting edge of the surface facing has remained clean, the bulbous scars and facets sharply defined. A polished stone axe of the Neolithic period.
The axe is roughly made from a fine-grained sedimentary rock.
The blade expands out from the body with a slightly convex edge, which is chipped in a few places.
The body is an enlongated sub-hexagon in section, and the butt is formed by the curving face of one side meeting with the relatively flat face of the opposite side.
