A copper-alloy Roman Tetrarchic nummus, probably of Maximian (AD 286-310) or Galerius (AD 293-311), probably dating to the period c.AD 300-307 (Reece period 15). GENIO POPVLI ROMANI reverse type depicting Genius standing left holding patera and cornucopia. Unclear mint, possibly London.
The coin has what appears to be a large concretion or area of corrosion at the base of the reverse type that appears to be the result of deposition rather than deliberate modification to altar the coin into a different object in antiquity. The latter cannot be ruled out entirely, but there is not…
