Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Medieval tin alloy badge or mount, probably a simple pilgrim badge, dating to c. 15th century AD. The badge consists of a simple 'S' initial, which may have stood for the Greek letter 'Sigma' or may have represented the Latin 'S' for Saint. The decoration of the badge, with trilobed ends and small knops embellishing the letter suggests that the badge is similar in style to that of the 'Tau' badge recorded onto the PAS database as record: LON-043B88. The reverse has a horizontal ridge added across its widest point at the centre and a tag, which may have either been a loop or relat…

The token is decorated on both sides with a segmented design and two pellets; on one side the design is very pronounced, but it is much fainted on the other, possibly due to a fault during production. The token is dark grey in colour. It measures 24.12 mm in diameter, 3.48 mm thick, 7.02 g in weight. Tokens were easy to make and distributed widely throughout a large period of time; therefore, they are difficult to date precisely. They are thought to have been circula…

The style of the decoration seems to be similar to items in the Art Deco style of the early 20th century; however, this could be a coincidence. The metal is dark grey to chalky white in …

An incomplete and corroded pin head of Roman to Post Medieval date. The pin head is plain and sub-spherical in form with an integral thin pin-shaft protruding around 8mm from the base which terminates in an old break. The fragment is undiagnostic and can only be assigned a broad date range. There is no characteristic green colouration on the surface associated with copper alloy corrosion; where underlying metal is exposed it is grey in colour. Accordingly, the metal is most likely an alloy high in tin.

Towards the straight side of the shield and nearer to one side there is a small circular projection the nature of which is unclear. The white to grey colouration and corrosion characteristic of the metal suggests it is probably comprised of a tin-lead alloy…
