Two large corroded iron nails. The first has a flat sub-rectangular head with a sharply tapered shaft. Dimensions are 62.5 x 36.9 x 26.6mm, weighing 58.74g. The shaft is sub-rectangular in section, tapering from 21.2 to 7.4mm wide and 14.6 to 4.2mm thick (head to tip). The shaft is slightly bent or hooked. The second has a flat rounded/oval head, which is incomplete due to corrosion and damage. The shaft is subrectangular in section, and tapers very little (widening slightly where it joins the head). Dimensions are 76.1 x 45.7 x 37.5mm, weighing 51.61g. Both nails are probably later…

An incomplete cast iron rowel spur of medieval date. The spur is formed from a Y-shaped piece of metal which is curved allowing it to be worn around the heel. The rowel no longer remains though the rowel box and iron bar remain in situ. Form the wide rowel box the neck of the tapers to join the spur where the two sides meet. The sides of the spur have a narrow, D-shaped section and do not bend to accommodate the ankle suggesting an early date. An iron dagger or sword pommel. The object is spherical and hollow, with a sub-rectangular perforation in the base and small round hole in one side (recent damage). The pommel is in the form of a flattened orb. The surface is decorated with inlaid gold strips running from top to bottom at intervals. In total eight strips run down the side of the pommel. An incomplete iron dress sword. It is a French style dress hilt sword of the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries. The key identifying feature is the kick over at the top of the handle, this is typically French. The folded over guard indicates that this is a dress sword. It had to be folded over so not to damage the dress uniform. The hilt is a half-basket Continental type. The holes in the hilt are for decoration – again this is a French design. The back of the sword blade is flat, it is therefore a single edged sword with two fullers on either side of the blade. The sword i…
