A possible knapped flint or chert tool. In section the tool is triangular and in plan it is sub-rectangular. The distal terminal is missing, and this break is not recent. The dorsal surface has two vertical negative scars with a triangular scar at the proximal surface. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion, with bulbar scars, ripples and the tool has a striking platform. The tool is knapped from a mottled red brown and beige coloured flint or chert. The tool weighs 8.5g. It measures 29.98mm from the upper to the lower edge and 25.48mm wide. If this is a tool, it is likely to…

The item appears to be a combination of tools that has been knapped from a mottled grey coloured flint. The tools appear to be a point/awl and a semi-circular shaped blade edge. The tool probably dates to the Neolithic period. In plan the tool is a sub trapezoidal shape in plan. The striking platform forms the upper narrow edge. One side edge has been re-touched forming the curvilinear blade edge. How effective this edge may be as a blade is not certain as the blade is steeply angled towards the edge. The opposite side of the tool has an elongated lower corner, possibly forming…

A small collection of worked flints, dating from the Mesolithic period through to the Early Bronze Age. The collection includes four waste flakes, weighing 48g. Two of the flakes have bulbs of percussion. One of which is simply a waste flake, the other could have been worked along the platform edge of the bulb, though neither flake has been made into a tool. There is also a small (probably) Mesolithic blade, weighing 1.14g. The blade shows evidence of retouch, no bulb of percussion survives due to that fact that the flake has snapped (horizontally) in half; the ripples (which show wher…

A collection of 30 Mesolithic - Early Bronze Age worked flint flakes, found scattered over the field, which centres on the restricted 6-figure grid reference below. The collection includes an undatable thinning flake, which has later retouch (weighing 10.10g). The bulb of percussion still survives on this flake, although the knapper manipulated this part of the flint to make a sharp pointed end. The bulb has been heavily worked. The ripples (on the back of the flake) show where this flake was once removed from the original core. Later retouching is evident along the two cutting edges o…

A knapped flint flake, possibly a tool. In plan the flake is linear with one terminal forming a point. The other terminal is broken, therefore the bulb of percussion on the ventral surface is missing, but the concentric rings are missing. In section the object is triangular and then trapezoidal. The dorsal surface has negative vertical scars, and some possible re-touching along the edges of the point. The flint is a dark grey/brown colour and is slightly opaque. It measures 31.82mm long and 15.72mm wide. It weighs 1.8g. The flakes is probably prehistoric, probably dating to the N…

A collection of 40 Mesolithic - Early Bronze Age worked flint flakes, found scattered over the field, which centres on the restricted 6-figure grid reference below. The collection includes a Bi-facally worked (possibly) Bronze Age knife (however this implement could also be a Neolithic leaf-point knife) weighing 11g. An undatable end scraper with significantly later retouch along the cutting edges, weighing 21g. A Mesolithic blade, with possible later retouch, weighing 2g. Within the collection there are four pieces of burnt flint (total weight 212g), including one very large piece and…
