A flint side scraper which probably dates from the Neolithic period, but which could be Mesolithic. The scraper is shaped like a backwards D and has semi-abrupt to abrupt retouch along the curved, convex, left hand side. There is some cortex on the dorsal face, but a removal from the right hand side interrupts the face. The ventral face has some patination. The scraper is 28.7mm long, 20.6mm wide and 7.4mm thick.

Late Neolithic or Bronze Age side scraper. Knapped from good quality dark black flint. The proximal end has a prepared striking platform, with a point of impact, bulb of percussion and impact ripples on the ventral surface. Approximately 50% of the dorsal surface is covered in a natural cream coloured cortex, which extends and covers one lateral edge of the scraper. The other lateral edge has been retouched with abrupt and semi-abrupt removals which extends around the distal end to form a curved scraping edge. The scraper is 45.30mm long, 32.06mm wide and 12.06mm thick at the proximal …

A double sided late Mesolithic or early Neolithic flint scraper. It is 67.4mm long, 46.9mm wide and 13.7mm thick. The scraper is made of a light grey brown flint heavily mottled with cherty inclusions. Some iron staining is visible. The scraper was made from a secondary flake with c.5% cortex. The ventral face is not retouched but shows a diffuse bulb of percussion with widely spaced ripples suggesting a soft hammer was used to create the flake. The dorsal face is faceted suggesting at least four previous flakes were removed. There is a chip out of the blade just below the striking pl…

A side scraper on a long and thick flake of mottled light and mid grey flint. The distal end carries pebble cortex and 2 parallel ridges run to it from the abraded proximal end. The left margin has slight edge wear on the dorsalblade edge with discontinuous invasive scars on that ventral edge so a cutting use expected here. The lower right margin carries a run of semi-abrupt scars which are use glossed with this patch extending towards the middle of the dorsal surface suggesting heavy use as a side scraper.Butler(2005) illustrates a side scraper on page 128,fig.52,4.

Side scraper. Sub oval in plan. The ventral face changes in colour as it nears the outer edge of cortex which may be a sign that the piece had been heated. The dorsal face has been abruptly retouched at the proximal end giving quite a serrated/ denticulated edge. The dorsal face is covered in cortex at a primary level. Fractures continue down the rest of the proximal end. There are signs of use wear at the retouched proximal end. It is made from brown pebble flint. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on page 107, Fig 43, No 13 which dates to the Neolithic.
