A flint saddle quern of probable Neolithic date.
The artefact is roughly pointed-oval in plan and has been formed from a split flint nodule. The upper face of the quern is slightly concave, with a textured surface probably achieved through repeated striking with a pointed implement. This working extends across all of the exposed area, although in certain areas - particularly the central portion and at the narrower, more pointed end, but also in a thin band around most of the perimeter - the grinding process has created a smooth, polished surface.
