Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An undiagnostic flint flake, as such attributed a general prehistoric date (Neolithic to Bronze Age). It is of a grey brown colour, with some patinisation resulting in a lighter grey patch on both faces, and a darker surround on the dorsal face. The bulb of percussion and ripple marks are visible on the dorsal face. It is roughly D-shaped, damaged around its edges and missing its distal end. In profile it is gently curved.

An undiagnostic flint flake, as such attributed a general prehistoric date (Neolithic to Bronze Age). It has almost completely weathered to a light hue, but chips in the surface reveal a grey/blue colour beneath. It is roughly D-shaped but damaged around its edges, probably from ploughing. The dorsal face has many, and often long, removals. In contrast, the ventral face is almost perfectly smooth. It is probably a waste flake, but may have been utilised.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A group of four man-made flint flakes, probably of Neolithic or Bronze Age date, the by-products of flint tool working. Several of these flakes seem to have been then re-touched to be used as tools: 1. Light grey flake with white cortex along one side and part of the other side. Appears to show signs of re-touching along the rest of this side to produce a cutting edge. L. 63.2mm, W. 30mm (max.), th. 9mm (max.), wt 19.18g. 2. Small mottled grey flake, roughly triangular, with signs of possible fine retouching along one side. L. 27.6mm, w. 19mm (max.), th. 6.3mm, wt 2.37g. 3. Sm…

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A prehistoric flint waste flake with evidence of retouching for use probably as a scraping tool. The flake is an irregular five-sided shape. It features an obvious bulb of percussion. A large loss on the dorsal face at the proximal end, above the bulb, hints at the fact that this flake may have had impurities which mitigated against its potential as a tool. Most of the evidence of retouch is on the wavy left side of the dorsal face. The flint is light grey in colour with some patches of whiter weathering and some iron staining, but no remaining cortex.

A prehistoric flint waste flake with evidence of retouching for use probably as a scraping tool (Neolithic/Early Bronze Age). The flake is an irregular four-sided shape. It features an obvious bulb of percussion, with a large bulbar scar (c. 18mm long) on the ventral face. The striking platform is visible; each strike was away from the striking platform. Most of the evidence of retouch is on the top left of the dorsal face, which also has three main removals along with what seems to be a bulbar scar. The flint is dark-grey in colour, a small piece of cortex is visible adjacent to the …
