Flint core. Highly worked, probably due to lack of naturally occurring flint in the area. Mostly long, linear, narrow flaking scars, with some slightly wider ones. The flint is dark grey in colour, with small creamy yellow-grey patches. Probably Mesolithic to early Neolithic in date. Length: 39.8mm, Width: 23.9mm, Thickness: 18.5mm Weight: 16.2g

Small flint core of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date. Only the upper half is worked, the lower is still covered in pebble cortex. The worked section has a number of long, thin flaking scars and a 'V' shaped groove running through its centre. The flint is dark grey in colour with lighter patches and whitish flecks. Length: 33.09mm, Width: 30.42, Thickness: 23.96mm Weight: 29.31g

Two fragments of knapped flint cores. Fragment one is from a multiplatform core which has been heavily worked down to a small remnant by the removal of flakes. Mid grey flint with paler mottling, 29.8 grams. Fragment 2 is from the side of a larger core which has been worked in parallel strikes from one platform to produce blades. A step part way down has been created by blades breaking off short and this maybe a core refreshment flake taken off to remove this step. cream cortex remains down one side covering c.15% of the surface. The flint is dark grey with paler…

24 cores and core fragments. Some are the result of neat parallel blade and bladelet removals while others have more irregular multi-platform work. This reflects the different stages of flint work present here (Mesolithic-Early Neolithic and Bronze Age). It does not solely appear to be a factor of the working stage as pieces of all sizes reflect the different work patterns although the smallest pieces which show evidence of working down to the nub extracting small flakes are inevitably multi-platform work. The pieces vary from palest grey to black, remaining cortex on some pieces sugg…

An incomplete flint single platform core, probably of Neolithic date. The flint is mottled and dark brown-grey in colour, with occasional lighter speckles in places and a glossy patina. Pebble cortex remains, covering a few of the surfaces. Four main large flaking scars are visible from the surving core. The broken top of the core appears to have been burnt, small fractures and hackled breaks are visible.

2 cores and a core fragment. One shows clear evidence of neat parallel bladelet removals, the other is more ambigious and could have had blade or flake removals. The fragment has more irregular multi-platform work. This reflects the different stages of flint work present here (Mesolithic-Early Neolithic and Bronze Age). The two cores show evidence of working down to the nub extracting small flakes. The pieces vary from baige, to grey to black. The remaining cortex indcate pebble flint. The bladelet core weighs 11.78 grams, the second core weights 13.21 grams and a combined weight for …

A small multi-face flint core, which shows signs of working almost every surface apart from one area where a small amount of rough yellow-brown cortex remains. This working takes the form of many irregular scars where small flakes of varying shapes have been removed. However, the undiagnostic nature of these scars makes it difficult to date the core beyond a probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date range. The flint is dark grey with lighter coloured patches. The patina varies from shiny to a milky matt. Length: 41.19mm, Width: 29.63mm, Weight: 36.06g

A large chert multi-platform core, of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. The object is roughly cuboid in shape. Around 50% of one face is covered with cortex. The other faces show limited signs of working, consisting of a few large parallel flaking scars and a few smaller, more irregularly shaped scars. Due to the undiagnostic nature of the object it could date from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. Length: 49.85mm, Width: 46.13mm, Thickness: 44.34mm, Weight: 130.19g

A multi-platform flint core of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. Much of the core is still covered with chalky pebble cortex and the working is very limited. It may possibly show signs of two different phases of working; several probable flaking scars are covered with a thick, milky patina. These appear to be the result of knapping rather than natural processes, but it is difficult to be definate about this as the patination obscures the typical signs. A few, presumably later, scars reveal the mid-grey flint below this patination and are more clearly the result of working. All of t…

A very small probable single-platform flint core. A small amount of cortex remains on one face. Although it is extremely small in size, the object does appear to be a tiny core rather than core rejuvenation flake as there is a distinct single platform and extremely small, parallel flakes have been removed from around the edges of this forming a roughly conical shape. Due to its small size and consequent undiagnostic nature it is difficult to date the core beyond Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. The flint is dark grey in colour with a very small amount of speckled patination in places. …

Small complete flint multi-platform core. The flint is dark brown-grey in colour, with occasional lighter speckles in places and a glossy patina. Pebble cortex remains covering a few of the surfaces. Only a few large flaking scars can be seen, suggesting that the core was not extensively worked. It is probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age in date, 3500-1500 BC. Two chert multi-platform cores found fairly close together. Both show limited amounts of working in the form of several large flaking scars and a few long, thin ones. Both have orangey pebble cortex remaining in places. Both vary in colour from greenish-grey to orangey-brown with whitish patches and both have a shiny yet granular texture. The visible working is fairly crude and therefore undiagnostic meaning that they could date from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. Two core fragments in dark brown-grey flint. Both show removals consistent with flakes on ventral and dorsal faces. One is more regular with straighter removals which could possibly have been bladelets. One of the two cores show evidence of extracting small flakes. Total weight: 14.11g. and the cores have been worked to their smallest fragment suggesting efforts to make the fullest use of the material.
