Large flint core with no evidence of platform preparation; flakes seem to have been removed randomly from the surface. The surface is also heavily patinated, making it a grey-cream in colour. There is some damage to the flint, revealing the mid-brown colour below the patination. It measures 55.56mm by 50.52mm bu 28.53mm and it weighs 90.2 grams.

3 fragments of core from probable Middle Palaeolithic flint industry. The fragments are of a deep, ginger flint, and may represent the production of a 'tortoise shell' core, charateristic of Levallois style tool production, in which cores are carefully worked before tools such as blades and scrapers are flaked away from them. The tools themselves then only need minimal retouching in order to ready them for use.

A sandy, orange brown coloured flint with cream/white mottled areas. It is possibly a uni-directional core dating from the late Palaeolithic or early Mesolithic period. It has a very worn and smooth surface. Its shape is characteristic of a core, but it is very worn so there is little evidence of blade removal.

A very large worked flint core, correspondence with the British Museum has revealed that it is most likely to be Neolithic or earlier in date. Roger Jacobi of the British Museum has examined images and says, “I have to say that I am unable to provide you with an answer as to what age this core might be. It is not a long blade core in the sense of long blade industries found in Southern and eastern England at about the time of the Pleistocene/ Holocene transition. These cores tend to be cylindrical and to have two opposed platforms from which blades are alternately taken to produ…

Face A of WAW-148C02 preserves evidence of 5 previous flake removals, the flake scars. These removals are generally indicative of centripedal flaking patterns, with the core rotating through the hands of the knapper. The scars of these flakes show broadly similar magnitude of damage e.g. abrasion of ridges between flake scars. This face of WAW-148C02 shows extensive ‘battering’ damage, in the form of a great number of incipient cones of percussion – the small marks that develop on flint as it impacts with other lithic materials, such as those shown within the dotted rectangl…

A patinated flint core rejuvenation flake, of possible final Upper Palaeolithic to Mesolithic date. It is struck from a grey/brown flint with blue/grey patination. The flake has a small striking platform and bulb of percussion positioned obliquely to the direction of flaking, with a heavily patinated surface remaining at the proximal end. The dorsal face has parallel flake or blade scars, while one side of the flake has multiple vertical and parallel blade scars set at right angles to the scars on the dorsal face. This suggests the original presence of at least two platforms. It measu…

A piece of Prehistoric worked flint of uncertain date. The fragment is sub-oval and formed of a mottled mid-dark grey flint. The ventral side has several ridges, running at different angles across the core. The dorsal side has a series of undulations, radiating from both sides of the object. One edge of the dorsal sides appears quite battered, with light grey concreted material in patches. There appears to be a striking platform at one end, as the object tapers slightly to the opposite end. Dimensions: length: 65.78 mm; width: 48.06 mm; thickness: 19.41 mm; weight: 79.61g.

An undatable Prehistoric flint probable core (rather than a handaxe roughout), which could be described as a crude discoidal flake core made on a well-rounded and worn flint cobble (Mike Trevarthen pers.comm. December 2014). Much of the cortex (c.50%) survives and where the flint surface beneath survives (through flake removal, on both faces) it is now a creamy-white in colour. The core measures 97.09x69.25x42.12mm and weighs 236g. Although diagnostically undatable within the Prehistoric period, its findspot proximity to known Palaeolithic activity suggests it may well be of Palaeol…
