Object type: AXE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Neolithic polished or ground flint axe. The axe is made from a mottled light grey flint on which small areas of cortex survive, particularly on one side. There is no obvious sign of recent damage and the polishing continues for most of the length of the axe. On one side, near the blade, is a flake scar whose surface retains gloss. Gloss is usually associated with the use of implements such as sickles, deriving from continual abrasion against corn. It is difficult to understand how the gloss arrived on this axe.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Surrey
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large flint 'ovate' dating to the late Neolithic period (2500-2100 BC)made from light grey flint. The implement appears to be unfinished or abandoned as a thick projection has not been removed on one edge. This may be due to the nature of the flint in this portion, which is rather cherty.
