Flint plano-convex pointed knife, lozenge-shaped in plan, semi-circular in profile and triangular in section. Both the lateral margins and the distal and the proximal ends are worked on the dorsal face. These are finely retouched with what appears to be pressure flaking. The remains of surface gloss on the right edge of the dorsal face of the knife shows that it was used against organic matter. The flint is a mottled light grey to translucent brown colour and could therefore be made from local flint sources. The length to breadth ratio is a bit more than 3:1. Bond (2004) illustra…

A flint tool, a knife, probably dating from the late Neolithic. The knife is 48.3mm long, 15.1mm wide and 4.6mm thick. It is formed on a tertiary flake which is rounded at both ends. Both edges are retouched, but they are also extensively damaged. It is similar to a plano-convex knife on page 171 of “Prehistoric Flintwork” by Chris Butler (2005), but is less invasively worked. The flint is an opaque and patinated brownish grey colour.

Possible Neolithic knife. Blade-like flake with thin weathered cortex on the right lateral edge. The left edge has some retouch / damage but appears worn from use, with a short length of gloss at the distal end. Possibly used in a composite sickle.

A probable flint plano-convex knife of early Bronze Age date. The tool has been made from an unusually thick secondary flake (with less than 5% cortex remaining on the dorsal). Most of the dorsal and part of the ventral surface have been retouched, which has removed the striking platform and bulb of percussion. The distal end has been retouched to form a blunt point. A Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age flint knife formed on a blade of brown flint. The knife is sub rectangular and is invasively retouched at the proximal right corner. There is fine retouch along the whole right side. The knife is similar in form (but smaller) to plano convex knifes. It is 42.35mm long, 14.42mm wide and 4.99mm thick. It weighs 2.65g.

A Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age flint knife struck on a flake of semi translucent grey flint. The knife is triangular and the cutting edge is formed at the proximal end where there is invasive retouch. There is also edge damage on the left side which may indicate that the flake had been used previously. The knife is 32.7mm long, 35.18mm wide and 8.59mm thick. It weighs 6.45g.

A flint knife dating from the late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. The knife is broken with only the tip surviving. It is formed on a light brown flint flake which has some thick patina surviving on one face, suggesting that it was a reused flake. The knife is invasively worked with scalar retouch. A similar example is Butler's Prehistoric Flintwork Fig. 72, number 7. It is 30.82mm long, 20.06mm wide and 6.72mm thick. It weighs 5.65g.

Knapped and flaked flint knife blade / or possible scraper of later Neolithic date. The scraper is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. It has been formed from a struck blade-like flake which has come from the secondary phase of knapping. Several larger ‘relic’ scars are present on the upper (dorsal) face which have been caused by striking other flakes prior to the removal of this blade. A small section of white cortex is present on one edge; this cortex is white and similar to that observed on nodules from chalk or limestone bedding planes. On the ventral…

A large flint knife dating from the Later Neolithic period. It is 94.8mm long, 78.4mm wide and 20.1mm thick. It weighs 152.15gm. The knife is oval in plan and has been flaked and partially polished. It is worked from both faces. There is some edge damage but it is not clear whether this is from use or damage caused by being on a beech. See figure 70 on page 101 of Stone Tools and Society by Mark Edmonds for a similar example.
