A large D-shaped flint scraper of uncertain date possibly Late Bronze Age to Iron Age c1000-0BC.
Description: The scraper is formed from a large D-shaped flint and rather than being a worked flake is a bifacially worked 'core tool'. It is itrangular in cross-section with the base being rounded. The scraper has been shaped by hard hammer flaking and has a scraping edge along its flat edge. The retouch can be dsecribed as invasive scaled semi-abrupt. There is more retouch along one of the faces partially parralel to the scraping edge which has been carried out to blunt this edge. The…

A small flint end scraper, almost square in shape at the distal end, before widening into a semi-circular proximal scraping and cutting surface. On the dorsal face this effect is somewhat marred by the presence of a relatively large amount of the cortex remaining at the proximal end. The flint is an irregular biface, with the ventral face very flat and smooth, despite a curve in the flint which is not really visible but may be felt. The flint itself is a grey colour, with areas of both lighter and darker grey shades, while the cortex is brown with an almost white surface showing throug…

A flint pebble recovered through fieldwalking in Rimpton. Flint is not natural to this area and the pebble must have been imported, possibly for use as a sling shot. There are no obvious signs of wear to suggest it had another function. It weighs 38.99g and measures 38.20mm x 29.61mm x 25.04mm. Possibly of Iron Age date.

A possible end scraper of Iron Age date.
It is struck from a black glassy flint with grey chert patches. The ventral face has heavy patination, the dorsal face has no patination. It is slightly squat and D-shaped in section. There is heavy modern damage on the dorsal face but the distal end still has the remains of abrupt edge retouch. Circa 2% cortex remaining on the dorsal face.
This flint measures 46.31mm in length, 44.52mm in width, 15.49mm in thickness, 31.92g in weight.

A primary flake of flint with at least 45% of dorsal surface covered in cortex. Distinctive ripples run across the ventral. There appears to be no reuse or reworking of the flake. The material itself is semi transparent, with a ruddy-brown tinge that deepens as the thickness increases.

Three pieces of flint debitage which may have been used as simple scrapers possibly dating to the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age tentatively dated to c 1100-600 BC.
1 - The largest piece weighs 29.32g and measures 53.65mm in length, 47.35mm in width and 14.4mm in thickness. There is evidence of a bulb of percussion and concoidal rings. There is some evidence of crude retouch along one edge. There is evidence of the cortex on the dorsal face and the retouched edge has evidence of recortexing. The ventral face is mid brown with white marks possibly of recortex.
2 - This piece i…

Object type: DENTICULATE
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Kent
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A possible coarse flint denticulate/scraper hybrid tool likely dating to the late Bronze Age or Iron age c.1000BC - 0BC .
Description: The scraper was produced from a secondary flake, possibly accidentally created. The scraper is semi-circular in plan. Barring the retouch along the curved edge there is little obvious flaking, likely indicating the use of a natural or accidental flake, typical of flint manufacture after the middle Bronze Age. The curved edge has short scaled semi-abrupt retouch producing a scraping edge. At the top edge is a denticulate removal creating an indent w…

A flint scraper likely of late Bronze Age to Iron Age date.

The retouch is struck from the both faces. The dorsal side still has about a third of the mid brown cortex remaining. The ventral side has some working and a substantial teadrop shaped bulb of percussion and substant…
