A post-medieval/modern gun-flint from a flintlock musket. The flint is rectangular in plan. The ventral face has slight ripples which are positioned transversely. The dorsal surface has a narrow edge which is has a long obliquely angled edge. The lateral sides also are obliquely angled, but the angle is more abrupt. The flint is mid to dark brown in colour. It measures 22.81mm long, 18.47mm wide and 5.55mm thick. It weighs 3.5g.
The flintlock was introduced in the middle of the 16th century but it was not until the reign of William III that the flintlock became the main regulation …
