Object type: BARBED AND TANGED ARROWHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Possible Middle Bronze Age (-2500 to -1000) tanged arrowhead: The arrowhead is knapped from an opaque mottled light brown flint. The dorsal surface has invasive re-touch with a medial portion of the arrowhead forming the tang. The ventral surface has the bulb of percussion on one side, ripples. The arrowhead is incomplete and there is no suggestion of any barbs. The ventral surface is concave and the dorsal is slightly convex. It weighs 1.1g, and measures 16.8mm in length, 17.18mm wide and 4.35mm. The item is possibly a tanged arrowhead, but it seems unusual as re-touch only occurs…

Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c.2700 BC to c.1600 BC) probable plano-convex knife: The knapped flint knife is an elongated pointed sub-oval, with a D-shaped cross section. The dorsal surface has scaled retouch covering the surface with low abrupt re-touch along the edges, thereby forming a convex surface. Along one lateral edge, in the medial section there are two notches, next to each other, which have been formed from the dorsal surface. The ventral surface has some invasive retouch, mainly to reduce the bulb of percussion. One portion of the proximal side edge has low ab…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint thumbnail (horseshoe) scraper of later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2300 -1800BC). The scraper is broad and largely oval in plan and sub-oval shape in profile. The scraper is formed from a mottled light and dark grey coloured piece of flint. This aesthetic quality may have made this particular flint desirable to the original owner. The tool has been created on a thick secondary flake. The scraper includes a semi-circular light brown coloured section of cortex on the ventral surface, at the proximal end. The dorsal surface bares invasive, stepped, semi-abrupt retouch/sec…

County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete barbed and tanged flint arrowhead of Early Bronze Age dating (c. 2500BC to c. 1500BC). Approximately 75% of the arrowhead is present, with one of the barbs missing. The arrowhead has been knapped from a dark grey coloured piece of flint. It is broadly sub-triangular in shape and lentoid in cross section. The tang is damaged and the surviving barb is rounded. Both long sides / edges of the arrowhead have been finely retouched to create sharp edges. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked with invasive, scaled, and low angle retouch. Similar flint barb and tanged arr…

Object type: BURNT FLINT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A piece of burnt flint. There is some evidence of working on the flint nodule but the original form is now not clear due to the fracturing after burning. The burning has mostly obscured the original colour. Burning flint after working is a feature of Bronze Age material in particular. It weighs 4.4 grams.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete barbed and tanged arrowhead dating to the early Bronze Age period (c. 2500-1500BC). The arrowhead has been knapped from a dark brownish-grey tertiary flint flake. The object is broadly sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross-section. It is broadly symmetrical in shape, with the barbs pointed and the tang squared. Both barbs are still intact. Both the long sides of the arrowhead have been precisely retouched to create sharp edges. On both faces the retouch is abrupt to semi-abrupt and scaled. The dorsal face looks to have had more working than the ventral. The very top o…

The object is broadly sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross-section. One barb is now missing, the remaining barb is rounded and the tang squared. Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c.2700 BC to c.1600 BC) plano-convex knife: The knapped flint knife is an elongated asymmetrical pointed-oval with a truncated proximal end. The knife has a sub D-shaped cross section and was probably knapped from a secondary flake/debitage. The flint the knife is knapped from is a mottled dark grey colour. The dorsal surface has stepped retouch covering the surface with abrupt re-touch along the edges, thereby forming a convex surface. The ventral surface has no re-touch on the surface, just one shallow scar, obliquely angled at the proximal e…
