Post Medieval gun flint, probably of 17th century date The flint is near-square, with a length of 20.7mm and a width of 19.1mm. The sides taper towards to the flat top platform (thickness 6.3mm). The gun flint is made on dark blue flint, which has patinated a little at the clipped edge. The flint weighs 3.7g.

An incomplete post-medieval English gunflint. Made from a dark brown tertiary flint flake. The gunflint is broadly wedge-shaped in section and would have been square or rectangular in shape before the post-depositional damage. The gunflake has retouch around all extant edges, the retouch being hard and direct with a scaled appearance. One side of the ventral face has also been retouched. A post-medieval/modern gunflint from a flintlock musket. The flint is broadly rectangular in plan. The ventral surface is smooth and relatively flat; the strikes come in at an angle; the bulb of percussion is absent. The dorsal face is bevelled on all sides. The flint has a white patina. The flintlock was introduced in the middle of the 16th century but it was not until the reign of William III that the flintlock became the main regulation firearm for the British Army.
