Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Three waste knapped flint flakes or debitage. The three flakes have been knapped from an opaque red/brown coloured flint. One flake has a patch of cortex remaining, with multiple scars on the dorsal surface. One flake also has multiple scars on the dorsal surface, whereas the third is probably a fragment of a flake. Together the pieces weigh 5.1g.
The debitage probably dates to the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age, -8300 to –1500.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Two knapped flint flakes. The flakes are knapped from an opaque mid brown coloured flint. Each has patches of cortex remaining. One flake has small vertical scars on the dorsal surface and the ventral surface has a small bulb of percussion and concentric rings. The other flake has two vertical scars on the dorsal surface and a small bulb of percussion and concentric rings on the ventral surface. The flakes weigh 4.4g.
The flake is prehistoric, probably dating to the Mesolithic or Neolithic periods (-8300 to -2100) when considering the size of the scars on the dorsal surface.

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A broken flint blade, consisting of the lower portion, probably dating from the Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic periods (6500 - 2900 BC).
The blade is sub-rectangular in plan, with a series of ridges on the dorsal (upper) face. A hinge fracture is present towards the tip of the blade, and deliberate retouch (several small parallel flake scars) along the edges is noted. The ventral (lower) face demonstrates some conchoidal ripples. The bulb of percussion is not present, being most likely in the upper part of the blade which is now lost.
There are some irregular…

A knapped flint core. In plan the core is oval and in section it is sub pointed-oval. The dorsal surface has multiple vertical slender negative scars whaereas the ventrical surface has a single convex scare and a smaller concave one. Along one edge there is a slender patch of cortex. The flint is an opaque light brown colour which has a waxy texture. The core weighs 6.1g and measures 23.58mm long and 22.3mm wide.
This core, probably dates to the Mesolithic period, and possibly the Neolithic period (-8300 to -2100).

Two incomplete knapped flint blades of Late Mesolithic dating (6500 BC - 4500 BC).
The first blade is sub-rectangular in plan, and triangular in cross section and is complete. It consists of a secondary debitage flake, as a small amount of cortex (outer rind) is present on the upper (dorsal) surface. A central ridge runs the length of the upper (dorsal) surface. There are two areas of deliberate (controlled) retouch, along the top of the blade and down the exterior edge at the top of the blade. The lower (ventral) surface is smooth, and does not exhibit any evidence of working s…

The ventral (lower) face shows evidence of the bulb of percussion. There is evidence of retouch along the ventral (lower) right end edge. There are some irregular, uncontrolled flake scars present, suggesting later post depositional damage such as plough roll or movement in the soil. The blade measures 24.09mm length, 9.96mm width, 3.54mm thick and weighs 1.0 grams.

A core rejuvenation flake struck from poor quality flint of Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date (6500 to 2900 BC). It is subrectangular in plan. The ventral (upper) face demonstrates a series of ridges, with a hinge fracture present. The dorsal (lower) face demonstrates a bulb of percussion and striking platform. It has been taken from a core, for the production of blades, as demonstrated from a series of parallel flint scars at the proximal end of the flake. There is evidence of uncontrolled flaking scars along the edge of the flake, which are probably the result of post depositi…

Core tool length 43mm, width 31mm, thickness 19mm. Multiple flaking scars on both the ventral and dorsal sides, rounded butt. The sides are undulating and would not have been used as a working edge, the forward section appears to have been truncated (old break). The narrowness and method of flake removal suggests that this may have been a Late Mesolithic adze.
