The proximal end is narrow at 13mm wide and parallel-sided. It widens at the dorsal end to the left only. There is some working on the underside of this projecting edge. The distal end itself has some shallower working, and more light working on the right dorsal edge. The flint is dark in colour with circa 50% light patination on the narrower section of the flint.

The dorsal surface exhibits 3 parallel negative flake scars. The ventral surface exhibits a small bulb of percussion and concentric ripple marks. There is no evidence of retouch. The flint is a mottled light grey with chips in the patina showing recent damage under dark grey core. The piece exhibits some iron staning on both surfaces.

A complete Post Medieval gunflint with lead casing from a flintlock gun. The flint is square in plan and is enclosed on both faces and one side by a sub-rectangular folded lead holder. The three visible edges of the flint show signs of working, both controlled and uncontrolled fractures, the other edge is obscured. The gunflint measures 27.85mm long, 27.75mm wide and 11.30mm thick; it weighs 22.3 grams.
