Five prehistoric worked flints recovered from the same area. The flints are Neolithic to early Bronze Age in date. One flint is a scraper on a flake, exhibiting retouch along both lateral edges and the distal end. It measures 31.31 mm long 26.18 mm wide, 10.05 mm thick and weighs 10.1 grams. The flint used is pale to dark grey in colour. A second flake may also have been used as a scraper, and this one also has retouch along both lateral edges and its distal end. It measures 22.95 mm long, 20.95 mm wide, 5.61 mm thick and weighs 2.6 grams. The flint used is a pal…

A small waste dominated lithic assemblage of five blades/flakes, found scattered over a field (approx 100m2). The blades/flakes appear to be at least partially incomplete, and the absence of patina on some edges suggests that some damage may be recent, possibly from ploughing. 1. Blade(?), incomplete, brown/grey flint, 0% cortex, light patina. Three scars on the dorsal face, length 23.1mm, width 12.0mm, thickness 6.6mm, mass 2.03g; 2. Blade, incomplete, brown/grey flint, 5% cortex, light to moderate patina on approximately 10% of the surface, length 23.7mm, width 15.2mm, thickness…

A small waste dominated lithic assemblage of ten probably mesolithic (8300BC to 4500BC) worked flints, found scattered over a field (approx 100m2). Some of the flints are incomplete; some damage appears recent, possibly from ploughing. 1. Blade, largely complete but the distal tip is missing, black/brown flint, approximately 10% cortex, incomplete bulb of percussion and shallow ripples of the conchoidal fracture on the ventral face. Negative scars on the dorsal face are unidirectional. Length 26.3mm, width 11.8mm, thickness 4.5mm, mass 1.4g. 2. Blade, incomplete (recent (?) break a…

A collection of twenty-nine knapped flint waste flakes or debitage, probably dating to the Neolithic period between 4000 – 2200 BC (collective weight: 117.57g). None of these flakes/ debitage appear to have a bulb of percussion or radial scars visible, although ripples or ‘lunettes’ are evident on most pieces indicating the force of the striking or knapping and some have multiple arrises. Additionally, there is little evidence of finer knapping along the surfaces of the flakes in order to produce a sharper working edge.

A group of four worked flint flakes/ debris (collective weight: 6.76g), all showing ripples or 'lunettes' on the ventral sides. No evidence of the bulb of percussion remains on any of them, and part of the core remains on the largest piece. There is no evidence of re-working to the sides, signifying that they are most likely to be waste.

There are also ripples or ‘lunettes’ radiating out from the bulb and a small amount of re-touch to the right side. A knapped two-edged probable flint blade, broken at both ends (length: 29.1mm; width: 20.1mm; thickness: 5mm; weight: 3.80g). This flint has been re-touched heavily on the dorsal side to either side of the artefact’s length to create sloped sharp edges. There are no specific arrises on the dorsal due to the large amount of pressure flaking. The breaks at either end could well be recent. Ripples or ‘lunettes’ are clearly visible running down the ventral, illustrating the force and impact when the flake was struck. This blade dates to the Neolithic period between 4000-2200 BC.

These marks may have been caused by recent damage while deposited in the ground. Addtitionally, there is a small area of re-touch along one end.
