Record ID: WMID-2D7507
Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete tertiary debitage flake of probable Neolithic dating (4000 BC to 2350 BC). It has been struck from a prepared core, when reducing down a nodule to form a core tool. There is retouch to the ventral face along one edge (short, abrupt, parallel). Probably made for a specific task and then discarded. It measures 32.6 mm in length, a maximum width of 21.2 mm and is 9.2 mm thick. It weighs 5.3 g. The flint is a mid to dark brown colour, with little surface patination.

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete flake from a prepared core of Late Neolithic to Early Iron Age dating (3300 BC to 1000 BC). The flake is sub triangular in shape and a mid brown colour. Part of a striking platform is present at the top of the flake. Retouch is present along both edges and can be classified as short, sub-parallel, semi-abrupt. No cortex is present, indicating that this flake has been formed from tertiary debitage. Length: 58.7 mm Width: 38.7 mm Thickness: 13.3 mm Weight: 22.9 g Flakes like this from prepared cores could date from between the Late Neolithic through…

Object type: BLADE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete struck / knapped blade, formed from a secondary debitage flake, of probable Neolithic dating (c. 4,000 BC to c. 2, 350 BC). The probable blade has a sub trapezoidal cross section, and is sub rectangular in shape. Retouch is present along the long edges and the short side (short, subparallel, abrupt). The probable blade has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage, probably the remains of a core for making blade. The flake has been made from a dark grey flint, with little surface patination. Length: 31.1 mm Width: 21.1 mm Thickness: 4.4 m…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint probable arrowhead of Neolithic-Bronze Age dating (AD 3450-1200 BC). The artefact broadly resembles a Leaf-shaped arrowhead. It is lentoid in plan and bi-convex in section. Both the dorsal and ventral surfaces have covering scaled flaking and all edges, with the exception of the proximal, have fine low angled retouch. The proximal edge has been abruptly blunted, forming a notched aspect at its base. The lithic retains no cortex and is therefore a tertiary flake. The flint is grey in colour. Length: 26.2 mm Width: 22.8 mm Thickness…

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A late neolithic to early bronze age flint thumbnail scraper. The shape is largely oval, and in section it protrudes toward the distal end. A small area of cortex is present on the dorsal face and the body is largely grey/warm brown, with an area of white on the ventral face. On the dorsal surface, there is short retouching visible on the outer rind, which in some areas appears parallel, and in other semi-parallel. The angle of retouch is semi-abrupt. The bulb of percussion is visible on the ventral face but appears quite subtle.
