A complete knapped / flaked flint end scraper or knife of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (2900 BC - 1600 BC).i
The scraper is broadly oval in plan and lentoid in cross section, formed from a tertiary debitage flake. The upper / dorsal face of the scraper exhibits a central ridge. The lower / ventral surface exhibits the remnants of a bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. There are a couple of irregular and uncontrolled flake scars, suggesting movement and damage in the plough soil. The edges of the scraper demonstrate evidence of retouch with indirect percussion. An incomplete bifacially worked fragment of a flint Sickle of Neolithic dating (circa 4000 BC - 2351 BC).
The fragment is broadly sub-triangular in shape, and broadly lentoid (lozenge) shaped in cross section. The fragment comes from towards the tip of the sickle, however the actual tip and the base are now missing. The flint is white and grey in colour with the tip in a brown colour. The fragment has a bowed curved edge. Both the ventral and dorsal faces of the flake have been reworked. This secondary reworking is best seen on the curved edge where detailed neat small flakes have…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC).
The arrowhead is approximately 90% complete, missing the pointed tip. The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, and would have consisted of a pointed oval shape with a semi circular base. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is present on either the dorsal (upper) or ventral (lower) faces. Both faces exhibit a large amount of controlled flaking, with retouch present along the edges.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Neolithic (Early) to Neolithic (Late) disc scraper, 33mm long, 33mm wide, 5mm thick and 9.3g in weight. Made on a rounded flake that has been worked centripetally into a disc by the application of semi-abrupt and in some parts abrupt retouch. The flint is opaque and has turned light grey through the process of patination. The butt is large and therefore the piece has been hard hammer struck. The left side has been notched, and the dorsal face possesses two parallel ridges created by unidirectional removals.

This arrowhead has been knapped from a dark grey-black piece of flint and there is no cortex remaining. It is broadly sub-triangular in plan and lentoid in cross section. It is broadly symmetrical in shape, with two notches chipped into the base of the flint to separate the barbs and the tang, both barbs are still intact. Both the long sides of the arrowhead have been precisely retouched to create sharp edges. There is a small chip on one edge of the arrowhead. The object is bif…

Object type: DAGGER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete flint dagger or knife of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age dating (2, 700 BC to 1,600 BC).
The flint dagger or knife is a core tool, it has been formed on a large blade like knife from a prepared core.
The flint matrix is mid grey with significant white inclusions and grey/black veining. The flint has been chosen to create this piece because of this. Likewise the inclusions will make the piece more difficult to knap. It was made from a prepared blade with lentoid section. The upper dorsal and lower vental faces have been reflaked to create the broad form. Then s…

Flint working debitage of probably the mid to late Bronze Age period, dating from c. 1600 - c. 800 BC.
The object is probably an implement formed of a tertiary flake removed from a larger core, and then subjected to further working. The object is broadly square in plan and a tapered D shape in section. The left side of the dorsal face has a rectangular removal which has conchoidal ripple marks from the proximal end. There is a triangular removal above this with conchoidal ripple marks from the distal end. To the right of these is a triangular removal with shallow ripple marks from …

The scraper is formed on a pointed oval shaped flake which is D shaped in cross section. The ventral (lower) face shows conchoidal ripples and the bulb and point of percussion from a prepared distal platform. The dorsal face has a number of irregular and regular flake scars from previous flake removals and a large area of mid grey cream coloured cortex. A complete retouched bladelet of later Mesolithic date, circa 4500-3000BC. The blade was struck from a prepared core and if it had not been reworked would be best described as secondary debitage
The flint is broadly triangular in plan and 'D' shaped in cross section. Approximately 50 % of the dorsal face is covered in a mid grey coloured chalk / limestone derived cortex. A striking platform and shallow bulb of percussion are present on the ventral face. One parallel sided blade removal is present on the dorsal face, suggesting that the core was relatively unworked when this blade wa…
